Overview for Thousand Oaks BOTOX® Patients
“With BOTOX® and alternatives like Dysport, patients can subtly reduce signs of aging through non-invasive and effective treatment.”
Dr. Christopher Costanzo offers patients BOTOX® to rejuvenate their appearance by eliminating small-but-significant facial lines and wrinkles.
Patients choose Dr. Costanzo for the procedure because of his skill, experience, and standing in the field. He lectures extensively through professional associations on topics such as craniofacial surgery, plastic surgery, and new trends in cosmetic surgery. As a result, he can provide an expert assessment on the benefits different treatments offer.
How Does BOTOX® Work?
Wrinkles are partially hereditary and partially due to the body’s natural processes. However, there are other factors at work.
For example, the muscles between your eyebrows contract when you frown, and this causes your skin to furrow creating a crease or frown line. Similarly, when you squint, the skin around your eyes folds and creates wrinkles known as crow’s feet. Over the years, your muscles “learn” these activities, and lines become more prevalent.
BOTOX® works by blocking nerve impulses and weakening the muscles that form frown lines and crow’s feet:
- It is a purified protein toxin produced by bacterium that can be safely injected because the toxin has been neutralized.
- To date, there have been no serious side effects related to injections for face wrinkles and virtually every specialty including orthopedics and neurology uses BOTOX®.
- BOTOX® is not harmful to the nerve itself, so you should feel no numbness in the area of the injection.
Thousand Oaks BOTOX® patients should see a reduction in the appearance of lines and wrinkles and a younger-looking face in the mirror.
Dr. Costanzo also uses Dysport®, that is made from the same active ingredient as BOTOX®, interchangeably. He may also recommend that you use the treatment for areas such as neck bands, cheek folds, and chin creases.
Although the long-term results of BOTOX® and Dysport® are not known, both have been used to treat eyelid muscle twitching and wrinkles for decades.
There is a risk of temporary and unintended drooping of muscles, which can result in a droopy eyebrow, eyelid, lip or neck area. This effect is not common and typically lasts for a few weeks.
Some patients may also be hypersensitive to BOTOX®. Dr. Costanzo can discuss these and other concerns with you.
Alternatives to BOTOX® or DYSPORT® Injections
Thousand Oaks BOTOX® patients may also benefit from other treatments such as:
- Brow lift: The procedure can permanently eliminate forehead and frown lines by removing nonessential muscle fibers.
- Frown line surgery or excision: Dr. Costanzo can remove frown lines permanently using an endoscopic approach, which creates one or two small incisions hidden in the scalp.
- Fillers: Options such as wrinkle fillers, Restylane®, Juvederm®, Radiesse®, Voluma and Perlane® or muscle or grafting material like AlloDerm® can soften your appearance.
Dr. Costanzo may recommend a facelift and chemical peel to correct wrinkles that cannot be improved with BOTOX® or Dysport.
